Kinds of Poetry : for Beginners

Narrative Poetry: is a form of story in the fiction and non-fiction genres intended to be told.
An Epic is poetry that speaks of adventures and heroes such as "The Hungry Stones" written by Rabindranath Tagore.
Ballad is poetry that is to be sung often speaks of sad and deep melancholy an example is a popular contemporary ballad called "The Ballad of the Green Beret" Written by Robin Moore and Staff Sgt. Barry Sadler during the Vietnam war.
Tale:a poem riddled with exaggeration and fiction like one written by Charles Dickens "A tale of two Cities". Poetry speaks of the "language of the heart" as prayer is to relating with God but in Philippine Literature other branches were added in different eras; such as the PASYON- a narrative verse of the sufferings of Christ during the "Semana santa" (holy week)in the Philippines. It is considered a significant literary work in a Catholic and Cristian dominated country, that is accentuated by the "Pabasa" or chanting of the PASYON itself.
